Welcome to the start of your Cape Town to Port Elizabeth
tour. We wave the Mother City and Table Mountain farewell and start our journey
on a big five private game reserve for the ultimate safari experience. Get
ready to spot lions, hippos, and a variety of smaller game in this reserve,
teeming with wildlife.
Today we are exploring the Karoo, South Africa’s semi-arid
desert, and travelling along a mountain pass that reaches an altitude of 1575
metres. As we meander along the gravel road with its limestone ridges and
baboon barks in the distance, the natural beauty and panoramic views are
arguably some of the most impressive in South Africa will take your breath
away. Whether you are interested in geology, history, nature, or just simply
want to enjoy the scenic beauty of South Africa, this is a day you won’t
forget.
There’s more to explore in the Karoo. The area is home to
magnificent sunsets, sunrises, natural wonders, and a lot of ostriches – in
fact, it is known as the ostrich capital. We will go to an ostrich show farm
where you can see an ostrich’s journey from egg to feather and you can even
feed the flightless birds and stand on ostrich eggs. Don’t worry it won’t break
– the shells are very strong. Part of the day is a trip to caves that are more
than 20 million years old; you will experience the different chambers through
an easy walk. But that’s not the only cave you will visit today, there’s
another one up for exploring! Join us as we explore two more natural phenomena
– one by the coast, and one atop a hill where a river carved the shape of
Africa through the mountains.
You are now in the heart of the beautiful Garden Route and
to kick things off we will hop on board a ferry on a half-day activity to explore
the indigenous coastal and fynbos forest. You can look forward to spectacular
viewpoints, a specialist guide sharing information, a hike, going into an
ancient sea cave, and having lunch under a canopy of trees. Afterward, we will
have some leisure time for shopping, and also visit and learn more about the
vibrant township culture.
We will visit the world’s first free-roaming multi-species
primate sanctuary which stretches out over a space of 12 hectares – eco-tourism
is no monkey business. Deep within the Tsitsikamma forest, there is a variety
of opportunities to take part in adventure-filled activities – from swinging
from treetop to treetop to bungy jumping from the world’s highest bungy jump
from a bridge and taking a walk on South Africa’s most famous suspension bridge
tucked between the mountains and ocean.
It’s your last day with us and we are making sure to end
things on a high note before you board your flight in Port Elizabeth for your
next destination. Get the cameras ready because one last game drive is the
perfect way to say goodbye. We will be guided by a specialised ranger on a
safari in South Africa’s third-biggest national park which is home to
more than 700 elephants, lions, buffaloes, and a variety of smaller game.
