Do you have what it takes to tackle the world’s highest bungy jump? Then take the leap and at the top of your lungs shout one-two-three bungy! Because the Bloukrans Bridge Bungy is a bucket list item worth the scream.
The Bloukrans Bridge, situated in the Garden Route, is home to the world’s highest bungy from a bridge. How high? A whopping 216 metres! It all started in 1990 when it became the first bridge to be utilised for bungy jumping in Africa.
But how does it all work?
Well, safety first. Under the watchful eye of Face Adrenalin, pendulum bungy technology is used for a smooth and comfortable jump. And here is something to bring you peace of mind. Since Face Adrenalin started operating in 1997, Bloukrans Bridge Bungy have has been accident- free with a 100% safety record. Once you have made your way across the bridge walkway, the atmosphere changes. There is music, jokes, photo opportunities and a lively vibe as the final safety measures are applied to your harness. And then when you are all strapped in, with your toes peeking over the edge your time has come to take a dive into the valley below.
The Bloukrans Bridge Bungy – on the border of the Western and Eastern Cape – is located in the Garden Route’s beautiful Tsitsikamma region. Indigenous trees to your left and right, the Bloukrans River below and the ocean in the distance are all up for view. But that is if you can keep your eyes open during the jump! However, don’t worry. When the jump is over, a staff member clips you onto his harness and then you are pulled back to the top. Undoubtedly another opportunity to enjoy the beautiful green surroundings.
While some people can say “been there, done the jump and got the t-shirt”, others are seasoned jumpers. True adrenaline junkies. One jump is not enough. Did you know that currently Veronica Dean holds the record for doing 19 jumps in 60 minutes at Bloukrans Bridge Bungy? And it is also home to the record for the most jumps in a 24-hour period. In 2011 Scott Hunty did 107 jumps in 24 hours!
Just keep in mind that there are a few requirements you need to meet in terms of age (minimum 14) and weight (between 35kg and 150kg). After your jump, you can purchase the video and photo footage from your experience. You will also get a certificate to make the moment official. A Bridge Walk (Sky Walk) is available for those who do not wish to jump.
